Coach Rick Smith
Head Coach and Founder
Coach Rick grew up in the DC and Maryland area and made a name for himself on the court at Saint Vincent Pallotti High School (1994-1998), racking up 1,183 career points. His senior year, he earned All Prince George’s County honors, was named The City of Laurel Player of the Year, and capped off his high school career by competing in the prestigious Capital Classic All-Star Game at the Verizon Center.
Rick went on to play Division I basketball at Marist College (1999-2002) on a full scholarship. As a freshman, he became the first rookie to start in 20 years under Coach Dave Magarity. Over his college career, he scored 1,075 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team in 2001, averaging an impressive 19.3 points per game. Despite battling injuries in his senior season, Rick still earned 2nd Team All-MAAC honors while posting a career-best 11.8 points per game.
After hanging up his sneakers in 2004, Rick took on a new challenge, serving as a police officer in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties. After seven years in law enforcement, he decided to follow his true passion—basketball development and coaching. He became a Certified Basketball Skills Coach through Ganon Baker Basketball and has since trained and mentored countless young athletes, helping them chase their dreams.
In 2008, Rick was inducted into the St. Vincent Pallotti High School Sports Hall of Fame for both basketball and track & field—one of his proudest moments as an athlete.
Most recently, Rick has served as an Assistant Coach for the Ft. Meade Mustangs Boys' Varsity Basketball Team under Head Coach Michael Glick. The Mustangs had a standout 2025 season, finishing 23-4 overall, winning the Anne Arundel County Regular Season and Tournament Championship, and securing their fourth consecutive 4A East Region title.
Rick’s passion for blending strength & conditioning with basketball training and personal development is what sets him apart. His ability to push athletes beyond their limits while building character and confidence has made him one of the most sought-after trainers in the DMV.
